Please check and verify your posts on social media!
MAF implores residents and anyone else, no matter how well-meaning, NOT to post or publish unverified, false or misleading information about either coronavirus or covid-19 on any of the social media platforms (WhatsApp groups, Facebook pages, etc) operated under its name. MAF reminds everyone that posting on those platforms is tantamount to publishing such information into the public domain which could result in the arrest or prosecution of the person making the post and possibly also the group's administrators.
When quoting or forwarding information that is not your own personal report, please ensure that the source of the information is verified with the original author/s or source organisation/s and wherever possible provide a reference weblink to the original source or provide contact details for the source. Please do not become amateur or fake reporters or alarmists. We will have a tough time getting through this period without unnecessary "noise".
Please rely upon the professional media (TV: eNCA, SABC, SkyNews, CNN, etc. Webnews: EWN, News24, TimesLive, etc) and the websites linked above to provide all the information you may need.
Please confine your posts on social media to those that are genuinely and uniquely in the social and security needs and interests of the residents and members of the Magaliessig community.
The Magaliessig Action Forum (MAF) is the local Residents’ Association representing the community of the northern Johannesburg suburb of Magaliessig. MAF is a community-based, volunteer-run, non-profit organisation that strives to improve our suburb for everyone who lives and works in and around it.
Originally established in 2010 to oppose a specific commercial development about to take place within the area, MAF has since grown to become a full-blown, active Residents’ Association that tackles residents’ and business peoples' major concerns and issues relating to the community, the suburb and the surrounding areas.
Our objective is to ensure that Magaliessig remains a safe, clean, healthy and pleasant place in which to live, play and work. Volunteer committee members listen to the suburb's residents, monitor and address important issues such as security, parks and litter, roads and signage, illegal or inappropriate property developments, unnecessary commercial creep, etc., The directors, who appoint willing and able portfolio committtee members, are elected by our membership. Our committee members also manage the organisation's finance, membership and fund-raising activities.
MAF welcomes interaction with everyone living or working in Magaliessig and the surrounding areas, including the neighbouring suburbs of Lonehill, Fourways, Little Fourways, Norscot, Douglasdale, Bryanston, Blue Heaven and Brecknock. Our aim is to foster community spirit and to make our little suburb the best it can be. And, through that, to protect and serve the interests of our community as a whole.
We urge you to join us to help in achieving this worthy goal. Protect the value of your property investment and enhance your lifestyle by taking action along with us against crime, grime and unwarranted intrusions into our beautiful suburb.
We need all the support we can get. Please join up and contribute to our suburb's cause which, after all, is very much your cause.
